I need a little advise on purchasing a button machine. I am looking for one to use as a fundraiser for various sports at our school. I am thinking (maybe hoping!!) that I would be making between 1,000 and 2,000 buttons in a school year. Does anyone have any suggestions on which one(s) I should be considering?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Green Machine Vs. Black-n-Red Machine

posted on: 4:06 pm on January 29, 2011 | comments in this discussion: 3 View Thread | Quick Reply

A month or so ago I posted a question asking about the accessories available for the green series machines vs. the red & black. I was trying to decide what size machine to purchase and couldn’t decide between the smaller button sizes . I have a 21/4 inch machine which I wanted primarily for mirrors. While I like the machine I kind of think that I should have gotten the 3″ since these seem pretty small to me. Not wanting to make the same mistake, I would love to get some opinions from someone who owns the green machine. I think I understand the difference in the backs. I guess I want to know if they look/work as nice as the z-series accessories since you have to go the do-it-yourself route of cutting off the wire & gluing the magnets, or whatever yourself. Also, is there anything you would like to make that you are unable to make with the green machine? ABM provided me with an excellent response but I would love to hear from someone who uses the machine as part of their monogramming business. Actually, I’d love to hear from anyone as I still haven’t made up my mind! Thanks!

I’m beginning to wonder if anyone uses this machine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a post referencing the green machines. Most everyone seems to mention the red & black.

    A Button Maker Mystery

    Button Maker Mystery

A few months ago, I ordered a new 1.5 inch machine and supplies from ABM, love all of that. Also, as an experiment, I ordered some 2.25 inch supplies for a mysterious button machine that I found in an old storeroom at work. No one knew anything about where it came from, it’s likely been there more than 10 years, and I’ve been determined to make it work. Problem is, I’m not sure who manufactured it and it doesn’t seem to work with the supplies. Not sure if it’s the supplies not being right for the machine or that the machine has been banged around in the storeroom a few too many times, but the front won’t crimp to the back, there’s a small gap that allows the button to be pulled apart.

It’s metal, silver with a black handle, no identifying marks at all. Can’t find anything for sale online that resembles it. The one unusual thing about it is that the dies don’t pivot, like the ABM machines, they slide across from one step to the next (the ABM pivot design is much smoother). Does this sound familiar to anyone who knows more about these machines? Does anyone know if ABM supplies would normally work with this type of machine? Ideas on how to fix it? Any ideas from the more experienced folks out there would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Embroidery on buttons Hi, I’m new and …

    Embroidery on buttons
Hi, I’m new and this is my first post. I’ve been making buttons for about 10 years, and my favorite buttons are the 3″ mirrors with fabric. I also have embroidery machines and have been toying with the idea of embroidering on the fabric and then putting making the mirrors. My question – do you use the mylars with this method (also the ponytail holders) or does it just depend on the thickness of the fabric? I normally embroider on the cutaway stabilizer and leave it as a backing for the fabric.

    Thanks,
    Brenda

I want to make a 1” fabric covered button with your Black-n-Red Series button maker but I do not see that option available on your website. Do you make a 1” button machine for making 1” fabric covered buttons?

I am interested in button making, but I do not have a button maker machine. Do all of your button supplies need a button maker to make a pinback button?

Another Question: If you do not sell used button makers, do you ever rent button machines to make photo buttons?
